Dear friend,
In April we had the opportunity to celebrate the Resurrection of our Lord AND the 80th anniversary of Bethlehem. So the first Sunday in May/fifth Sunday of Easter didn’t seem to offer much by comparison.
But yesterday at church was a great day, with beautiful Bible readings to reflect on and Holy Communion to share and the consolation of fellowship in a time of mourning. Then there was even the quarterly Voters Assembly, where the work of the church was reviewed, recognized, and reinvigorated with several promising developments in view.
All this to say, the Holy Spirit continues to be active in the congregation according to Jesus’ promise!
We’ll see that on Wednesday with supper to share and then a Bible study focused on the confession of the Holy Spirit in the Apostles Creed and how the same Spirit moves among us daily and richly with abundant gifts. This would be a great time for everyone to attend and participate.
That will lead us to the funeral for Neva Broad on Friday at 10:00 am. Death is still an enemy even as it ushers us into the presence of the Lord. Yet we do not grieve as those without hope, so also this will be a celebration of a bountiful life lived by faith in the grace of God.
In Christ,
Pastor Heckmann
