Dear friend,
I think we can positively declare now that the Advent season of preparation for Christmas is in full swing. We heard the voice of John the Baptist cry out yesterday in our worship service. Decorations of the season are in place here, there, and everywhere. Temperatures have cooled enough that we can pretend December means winter. And the church has a full calendar of activities.
There is something for everyone this week at Bethlehem, and everything for someone, too. It’s after the fact now, but yesterday a hardy band undertook both the hanging of the greens and the striping of the parking lot. Wednesday will be another meal of community, with a spicy theme, starting at 5:15p. Advent worship will be in the sanctuary at 6:30pm. In case you are wondering, this is not merely a copy of Sunday morning service. We will sing a couple of hymns, have a few readings, participate in an interactive sermon, and still raise up all the individual prayers that are asked for.
Then there’s The Lunch Bunch on Thursday. If you’re in the giving mood, and you should be, the Bloodmobile will be present on Friday from 3-6p so you can give the gift of life. And the week is capped by our annual Festival of Nativities on Friday evening, Saturday evening, and Sunday afternoon. You can participate, or help out, or just enjoy the variety of beauty and creativity.
