We are pleased to welcome Rev. Peter Heckmann as Vacancy Pastor at Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Though newly arrived to this role, Pastor Heckmann is no stranger to ministry or to Texas. After retiring to Tyler in 2023, he now returns to serve once more—bringing with him over three decades of pastoral experience.
He spent the last 20 years shepherding the people of Hope Lutheran in Austin, following his first call to St. Mark Lutheran in Edmond, Oklahoma, where he served for 10 years. A lifelong member of the Missouri Synod, Pastor Heckmann was born and raised in Houston as both the son and grandson of Lutheran pastors. He attended public schools before earning his B.A. at Concordia Lutheran College in Austin and completing his seminary training at Concordia Seminary, St. Louis.
Pastor Heckmann and his wife, Terry, were married in 1997 and are proud parents of four children—and grandparents to one (so far!), all of whom live in Texas. When he’s not in the pulpit, you might find him on the tennis court, driving across the country, or simply soaking in the beauty of God’s creation.
We thank God for Pastor Heckmann’s willingness to step back into ministry and look forward to the season ahead with him. Please join us in offering him and Terry a warm Bethlehem welcome!
