Welcoming Mark Sandlin as Our New Permanent Elder

Exciting news for our Bethlehem Lutheran Church community! We are delighted to announce that Mark Sandlin will be moving from his interim role to a permanent position as Elder beginning in July 2025, with his term lasting until 2027.

Mark’s journey began in Lexington, Kentucky where he initially worked as a TV repairman.  He ventured with his family to the Lone Star State while in his twenties. Recently retired from an impressive 33-year career with the Texas Prison System, Mark has served in various roles—from correctional officer to Administrative Classification and case management. His career took him across several units, including time as an Auditor for Rules and Regulations at the privately run Billy Moore Unit.

Within Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Mark has been a familiar and friendly face. He’s actively involved in Game Night, Lunch Bunch, and the Usher/Elder team, assisting with communion during services. Plus, he loves helping with church events like the much-anticipated garage sales.

Mark is cherished not just at church but at home as well, where he and his family, including his two children and one precocious grandson, all live in the Palestine area.

In his leisure time, Mark enjoys a spirited game of Pickleball at our Game Nights and has a passion for fishing. He’s considering starting a fishing group that welcomes both the young and the young at heart to cast a line together.

We’re so grateful to have Mark’s leadership and warm spirit with us permanently. Please join us in welcoming him and feel free to join him for a game of Pickleball or perhaps a fishing trip soon!
