Seven members from Bethlehem Lutheran Church enjoyed an afternoon of food, laughter, and fellowship at the Oktoberfest event at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Athens, Texas, on October 10.
The day offered plenty to see and do: vendors, a live band, a book giveaway, hayrides, a circus, and a pie-throwing contest. St. John’s pastor took more than a few pies, along with two other willing participants. The meal included German sausages, hot dogs with sauerkraut, cold potato salad, warm German potato salad, and beans.
All proceeds from the event were donated to the Athens soup kitchen. We are thankful for our neighbors at St. John’s and for a gathering that joined good fun with care for the community. “Encourage one another and build one another up” (1 Thessalonians 5:11).
We hope you will consider joining the Oktoberfest fun in Athens next year.
