Thoughts to Ponder

Thoughts to Ponder-Psalms 19:7-11

The law of the Lord is perfect, reviving the soul; the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple; the precepts of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart; the commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes; the fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever; the rules of the Lord are true, and righteous altogether.

More to be desired are they than gold, even much fine gold; sweeter also than honey and drippings of the honeycomb. Moreover, by them is your servant warned; in keeping them there is great reward.
Psalm 19:7-11

The beginning of this Psalm in verses 1-6 is a description of how Creation pours out a testimony to the Creator in all kinds of ways. Both day and night there is evidence of the Almighty if you just look. The evidence becomes obvious the more you study this created world.

Our challenge is that living in houses and apartments with TVs and computers and more tends to keep us inside and missing the way that the world shows that there is a God. We don’t live like early civilizations lived in tents and as nomads. Did you even know that there was a lunar eclipse recently? Now there is good reason for living inside solid structures as the elements can whip up and there are real physical dangers to that lifestyle. However, we do lose connection with what God created to renew and refresh us. Many people love getting out to breathe fresh air, see the many wild flowers that are blooming right now (part of my joy in driving the 2 hours to Palestine) and perhaps other outdoor activities that renew and refresh our spirit and life, as God has intended for the outdoors to do for us.

Then, once we recognize that the ‘fingerprints’ of God are all over this world, we also have a deeper understanding of His Word – the Bible – that can be a guide for our daily life. We can become closer in our thinking to His thinking by starting outside and appreciating all that He has created for us to live in, see, and enjoy. Like we can count on creation to be helpful to our lives, we can also count on His Word to be just as reliable for our daily life. What a great and loving God we have!
