In our community, Pastor Dana Wilhelmsen is known for his inspiring sermons. Now, we’re excited to share that he’s also an accomplished author. His book Plantings of Faith Meditations on Christian Identity, Encouragement, and Caution is enhancing Bible studies across the United States and abroad.
Dana Wilhelmsen was born in Victoria, Texas, where his family owned a local grocery store later sold to HEB. He worked in the grocery business for 16 more years, eventually becoming Vice President of an Austin store. Dana then ventured into a business dealing with fraudulent checks which he later sold. His part-time job as a DJ honed the verbal skills he uses today as a pastor and author.
Dana’s journey into ministry began with studies at Concordia in Ft. Wayne, Indiana, earning a Master of Divinity in religion. He served as a Vicar and then Pastor for a new church in Sedona, Arizona, which grew into three churches and two preschools. There, Dana worked to bring people back to Bible-based churches from cults. His work led to speaking opportunities with Dateline, TBN, and Connie Chung.
Returning to Temple, Texas, Dana has recently retired from being a full-time pastor. He now serves as a visiting pastor in the Thorndale and Palestine communities and promotes his book Plantings of Faith Meditations on Christian Identity, Encouragement, and Caution at speaking engagements. Despite his busy schedule, he’s working on a second Plantings of Faith book with additional themes.
The Plantings of Faith Bible study can be enjoyed individually or in group settings, with discussions flowing from the readings. Each of the fourteen chapters is about ten pages long, making them perfect for daily devotion. Chapters begin with scripture, weave in Bible stories, and end with a prayer and reflection.
The book feels like a friendly chat on the porch with Dana, sipping Texas sweet tea and discussing God. It’s accessible whether you’re a lifelong Christian or new to the faith. Readers will find key takeaways like holding fast to God, finding refuge in Jesus, walking with Him, and maintaining a Bible-based study approach.
At the book’s conclusion is a section called God’s Providence, highlighting His guidance over our lives and encouraging us to remain in His Word.
