A Showcase for Award Winning Artist Terry Heckmann

Terry Heckmann grew up in Newton, Iowa, surrounded by the beauty of a farm with a pond and wooded land. Even as a child immersed in country life, she felt the presence of God’s creation all around her. At 24, she gave her life to Christ, feeling that her early connection with nature had prepared her heart for Him.

Before starting a family, Terry discovered her love for watercolor painting. She and her husband, Pastor Peter Heckmann, now have four adult children and a five-year-old grandson, all living in Texas. Amid her busy family life and career in Molecular Biology at two universities, art remained a beloved pastime. A colleague, noticing her natural artistic talent, encouraged her to dive deeper into watercolors, adding to her experience with pen, ink, and colored pencils.

After retiring to Tyler, Terry pursued her passion, joining the Palette of Roses Art Guild, where fellow artists inspired her journey. Her talent quickly shone through when she won Best Placement in her first year entering her artwork, followed by consecutive awards in the next years.

Terry’s artistic style has blossomed over time as she continually seeks to refine her techniques and embrace new methods. She learns from other artists, draws inspiration from conversations, and practices her craft with dedication. Now, with her own studio at home, Terry can easily access her materials, allowing her to thoughtfully work through her creative process. Watercolors require patience as each layer must dry before adding the next. This reflective approach, often taking weeks, leads to a piece she feels complete through a sense of peace from her connection to God.

Encouraged by a professional artist, Terry is now showcasing her work at the Tyler Fine Art Gallery on June 26, located at 119 West Ferguson Street, from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Her talent has already caught attention, as she sold a piece before the exhibition even began. We encourage you to visit and experience the beauty of Terry’s watercolor creations.

Terry’s favorite Bible verses, Psalm 104:24 and Job 12:7-10, resonate deeply with her art. She feels blessed by God with the ability to capture and share the wonders of His world. Be sure to enjoy the photo gallery she has shared with our community.
