Our Midweek Advent Series concludes with a song of pure fulfillment and peace: The Song of Simeon, known as the Nunc Dimittis.
“Lord, now you let your servant depart in peace, for my eyes have seen your salvation.”
In this final video interview, Pastor Heckman and Kandice Herndon discuss the powerful conclusion to our “Advent Songs of Salvation.” Simeon is a man who spent his life watching and waiting for the Savior’s redemption. His song is unique because it technically takes place after the birth of Christ, when he is privileged to physically hold the baby Jesus in his arms in the temple.
For Simeon, holding the Christ child is the absolute confirmation of God’s grace. But as Pastor Heckman points out, Simeon’s song isn’t just about peace; it also contains a prophetic word for Mary. While Mary is still absorbing the wonder of the birth, Simeon offers a glimpse into the future impact this Child will have—an impact that will pierce the soul but ultimately redeem the world.
You are Invited: We open our doors to everyone in the community to come hear “the rest of the story” at our final midweek service. Please join us as we find peace in the promise fulfilled. Watch the preview video to learn how Simeon’s song serves as the perfect benediction to our Advent journey.
