From now on, therefore, we regard no one according to the flesh. Even though we once regarded Christ according to the flesh, we regard him thus no longer. Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.
2 Corinthians 5:16-17
Because of the resurrection of Jesus, thinking of fellow believers changed. Here, the Old Testament scholar, Paul, writes that we followers of the Savior have a new way of thinking about each other. No longer do we just see a unique fellow human being, but we begin to see that person as a sister or brother of our heavenly family, and a deeper and closer relationship with them – a new dimension of life together that includes the eternal dimension. Together Forever!
And all because of Jesus. You can see the development through the Disciples who saw Jesus in the flesh and as a fellow human being. But because of what He did, and how He spoke and treated other people, and how He was so aligned with what the ancient Scriptures said, that those who walked with Him began to see Jesus in a totally different way – a deeper way. Jesus’ presence began to bring what they had heard in the promises begin to take shape right in front of them.
And that is the kind of transition we can begin to see in each other – as a fellow followers of that same Savior. We are gathering together like the Disciples and perceiving that God is at work among us too, today. We see it developing every time the Spirit brings us into worship and fellowship together. Praise God for His faithfulness!
